Choosing expediency over principal is a common problem in our lives.  Sometimes the decision is harmless, often times, and over time, this decision can prove to be fatal.  This was Pilate's struggle as well, he preferred expediency over principal.  Though Pilate knew without a doubt that Jesus was innocent, he couldn't act on what he knew.  He eventually traded in principal for what was most conevenient for him and ultimately his idolatrous career.  There is Pilate in all of us.  Jesus on the other hand held fast to principal as he continued his downward climb to the cross.  While the world was falling fast around Jesus, he remained steadfast in his saving mission.
