One of the greatest promises in scripture comes out of John 1:12, "but to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God..." The original word translated "receive" means to actively and even aggressively take hold. What does it mean to actively take hold of the light, Jesus Christ? Advent is all about celebrating the fact that Jesus comes to us. It is also a time to reflect on our lives and examine if we are taking hold of Jesus and his promises, or if we are holding on to lesser things. This message unpacks John 1:12 and what it means to really receive Jesus and the life that he offers.
